SENSEI DAVE POWELL - 5th DAN

The instructor for the club is Sensei Dave Powell. Sensei Dave originally took up Lua Gar Kung Fu in 1975 and moved on to White Crane kung Fu  He then took up Sankukai Karate and reached the level of 2nd Dan.  In 1999 Sensei Dave joined Tsunami Karate Club, originally training under Sensei John Crankshaw and then Sensei Solfrid Daniels. After training under Sensei Solfrids guidance for a number of years he eventually took over the club.

Sensei Dave was successful in many National competitions winning medals as a junior grade in both kata and kumite. He then progressed to the new veterans category  winning the first five competitions in kata and numerous medals in kumite. Sensei Dave has competed internationally as a veteran in kata winning Silver in Capetown in the World Championships , Silver in Estonia in the Europeans, Bronze in Finland in the World Championships and Bronze in Sweden in the Europeans.Although retired from international competition Sensei Dave still competes in national competions and is a KSI & SKF referee and judge.

Sensei Dave trains every week with Shihan Eddie Daniels (SKF chief instructor and KSI joint world chief instructor) and attends national and international courses with the 4 world chief intructors so that he can pass on their knowledge to his students.

Although still actively competing Sensei Dave mainly trains for the true martial art where self discipline, etiquette and respect are of prime importance.

Sensei Dave is CRB checked and is First Aid qualified.

 

 

IAIN SINNETT 2nd DAN

 

Iain is a junior member of the SKF national squad. In 2011 Iain competed in his first international competition winning Gold in the individual 12-13 year old kata and bronze in kumite. In 2012 the KSI World Championships in Atlantic city, USA Ian won gold in the 14-15 years kata. Iain has also won numerous medals in national competitions. Iain is a former winner of the SKF shield for most outstanding cadet.

 

 

 

TERESA LYE 3RD DAN

 

Teresa is Tsunami karate clubs' longest serving member. Teresa still competes in competitions performing kata and is a former winner of the SKF shield for most outstanding competitor.

 

 

 

 

SOPHIE POWELL 3rd DAN

 

Sophie first started training in 1999 with Sensei John Crankshaw. She has won numerous medals in national competitions. She joined the SKF Great Britain squad in 2006. Her first international medal was won in 2007 at the KSI European Championships Sweden where she won the girls 14-15 years individual kumite Bronze.This was followed at the Switzerland 2008 World Championships with team kata Gold 15-17 years and bronze in the kumite.In the 2009 KSI European Championships in Germany Sophie won 15-17 years team kata Gold and bronze in kata. Sophie also won the Kimura cup for the most outstanding competitor in 2009.

 

 

EMILY POWELL -  3RD DAN

 

Emily started training when she was 7 years old. She achieved her Black belt 1st Dan at the age of 11, one of the youngest members of the Shukokai Karate Federation to achieve this. In 1999 at the age of 10 Emily joined The Shukokai Karate Federation National Squad and  has represented Great Britain in European and World championships winning many medals in both kumite and kata.  She has also won numerous national titles in both Kumite and Kata.  Emily is Tsunami Karate Clubs' most successful student.

Emily has trained with the 4 World Chief instructors on numerous occasions on courses held in Europe, Africa and the USA. She trains with Shihan Eddie Daniels (KSI World Chief Instructor and SKF Chief Instructor) every week as well as training in her own club.

Emily is a member of the  SKF ladies kata and Kumite team.

Other notable achievements for Emily are in 2004 she won the prestigious Kimura Cup for the most outstanding competitor. Also in 2004 Emily was a member of the Tsunami  team who won the Wyre Forest District Sports Council award for the best junior team and was also nominated for the WASP award.

In 2007 Emily was voted the Wyre Forest Senior Sportswoman of the year.
